First goal with student handhelds

Think of the first Palm app or lesson you will try with your students for your content area (i.e. not just Giraffe or beaming a business card, but maybe "Silly Sentences to teach parts of speech" or "Quizzler to review unit 1 vocab" or "MathAce to review basic math facts" or "eReader to distribute a short story for class.") Some of you have actually already done this, others are still waiting on student Palm access. What will be your first goal to tackle?

Comments:
We planted bean seeds last week in Science. We are going to keep a daily log in an app called Zotes. The students can draw a picture of what's happening with their plant and also add text.

I have uesd quizzler quite a bit with the study hall kids. It gives me extra timt to work one on one with someone while the other kids are working on a quizzler quiz to review their vocabulary. I tried the quizzler maker, it is just as easy to do it on the palm or in memoes.
I have had not had success yet with fling it.
If anyone finds the Hobbit as an ebook let me know.

Tonight I tried the quizzler. After a few trial and errors( i forgot to put the correct answer first and did some spacing where I wasn't supposed to :(
I tried a few reading comp. questions over a chapter in a book I am reading to the class. I also did a daily oral language on a memo and daily math exercise on quizzler.
I will also have the students draw a greater than and less than sign "eating" a number that is greater or less than on sketchy.

I have been using the app locker for my math students since they get different lessons than the regular 5th grade. We don't have to take the time to write down their assignments...I just beam the homework assignment to them and they are off to their next class. I have also been using quizzler for math with placevalues and comparing numbers.

I used Quizzler for the first time today with a place value quiz, and it worked surprisingly well. I am going to try to use Zotes tomorrow to do an "Artful Artist" assignment for Social Studies (using their knowledge of literature circles). I'm a little worried about this assignment just because of the logistics of it all. I've worked with Zotes a little myself but am not sure how it will work with the students. I'm trying it Tuesday in class, so if you hear me screaming you'll know why:)

I began to created many quizes in the quzzler program and hopefully achrive them for future use in the JR.HIGH. I can see this being a very usefull tool for jr high students to improve their vocab test scores on a weekly basis. Sketchy has much potential, but I really have to think hard how to really get some true educational results out of it. If it could be used in a class room to enhance learing of a concepts in less than 15 minutes I can see it's use. Or perhaps used as a long term proeject for deeper longer meaning. There are many applications that could be purposeful, but there is only so much time in the day. KEVIN MORROW

When I get the palms (I'm going to have to have students from my homeroom class borrow from another until the rest of our palms arrive)I will be having the students create a quiz for quizzler using memo pad. They will also be using sketchy to draw microscopes; I might even have them do an animated version with the microscope assembling itself. We will be usin freewrite in writing class for poetry etc.

That's "using" not "usin" :-)
